Mica Trela

1942 — 2026

Phillipsport, NY

Mica Trela, born Mieczyslawa Pielecha, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, at the age of 83 after a long illness.

Born on November 24, 1942, in Straczków, Poland, to Stanislaw and Wladyslawa Pielecha, Mica began her career as a biology teacher in her native country. In 1976, she made the courageous journey to America with her daughter, eventually settling in Phillipsport in 1979. Her deep desire to care for others led her to become a Nurse’s Aide, where she devoted herself to serving the infirm and the elderly.

A pillar of her community, Mica was actively involved with St. Mary’s & St. Andrew’s Church, the Phillipsport Community Center, and the Mamakating Historical Society. She will be remembered as the beloved “Pierogi Lady” for her legendary handmade pierogi. An avid gardener with a remarkable talent, she could nurture any plant back to life, transforming even the smallest cutting into a lush display that she generously shared with friends and neighbors. Above all, she was fiercely protective of those she loved, living wholeheartedly for her family, friends, and her beloved cats.

Mica is survived by her children, Agnieszka (Suvicha) Howie and Stanley Thomas Trela, and her cherished grandchildren, George and Juliana Trela. She was predeceased by her brother, Gustaw Pielecha; her sister, Irena (Pielecha) Warecki; and her former spouse, Adam Trela.
