Mercedes Ornelas Hernández, a woman of unwavering faith and a heart full of praise, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 15, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on October 24, 1960, in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mercedes spent her early years in Mexico before embarking on a new chapter in the United States. In 1979, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, which became her cherished home for over 45 years and the place where she grew her beautiful family.
Mercedes was the beloved wife of Ruben Hernandez Garcia, with whom she built a life centered on family and faith. She was the heart of their home, finding joy in cooking delicious meals and ensuring her house was always a welcoming place of peace. Outside of the home, she had a keen eye for treasures and loved the thrill of finding something special at local garage sales. Above all, Mercedes was a proud and doting grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she poured her love and prayers into them daily, leaving behind a legacy of faith that will span generations.
Mercedes is survived by her loving husband, Ruben Hernandez Garcia; son and daughter-in-law, Ismael and Soledad Hernandez; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Hernandez, Vanessa and Gustavo Sanabria, and Susie and Johnnie Rogers; grandchildren, Ismael Jr, Ivan, Ricardo, Francisco, Jaslyn, Silvia, Nancy, Nathan, Viviana, Mark, Carlos, Arianna, Julisiana, Leilani, Johnnie III, and Moises; siblings, Juanita, Ramona, Rafael, Salvador, David, Griselda, Maria, Bertha, and Mario. Nacida el 24 de octubre de 1960 en Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mercedes pasó sus primeros años en México antes de comenzar una nueva etapa en los Estados Unidos. En 1979, se mudó a Wichita, Kansas, que se convirtió en su amado hogar durante más de 45 años y el lugar donde formó su hermosa familia.
Mercedes fue la amada esposa de Rubén Hernández García, con quien construyó una vida centrada en la familia y la fe.
