Houston, TX
Melvin Maltz was born on February 12, 1927, in Houston, Texas, to Nettie and I.B. Maltz. A lifelong resident of Houston, he passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 99. Melvin lived a remarkable life defined by deep family devotion, compassionate leadership, and dedicated service to his community and country.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 25 years, Phyllis G. Maltz; his second wife of 44 years, Corky Maltz; his son, Jim Maltz; his daughter, Debi Fenberg; and his brother, Herschel Maltz. Melvin married Corky in 1978, and together they lovingly blended their families—her three daughters and his two daughters and two sons—into one close-knit family. Their years together were filled with travel and the joy of gathering with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his son, IB and Claudia Maltz; daughters, Gail (Maltz) and Ed Dollin, Terry (Maltz) and Sam Schlanger, Cheri and Ken Frame, and Barbie and Jeff Horowitz; and sister-in-law, Lynn W. Maltz. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1943, Melvin attended Texas A&M, enlisting in the Air Force in 1944. He served during World War II and in the Army of Occupation in Germany before returning to complete his degree in aeronautical engineering in 1948. He enjoyed a distinguished 72-year business career, rising to vice president at Century Papers Inc., co-founding and serving as president of National Inpak Corp. and its subsidiaries, and later spending 34 years in the insurance industry with Lone Star Advisory Group, where he earned Life Membership in the Million Dollar Round Table.
Throughout his life, Melvin gave generously of his time and leadership to many organizations, serving as board member, committee chair, or president of Congregation Beth Israel, the Visiting Nurse Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Houston Area American Cancer Society, the Jewish Community Center, and others. He held numerous leadership roles with Texas A&M University, including president of the Houston A&M Club and chair of the Board of the Association of Former Students. Two of his proudest honors were being named a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M in 2013 and his induction into the Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor in 2025. He found great joy in his long association with the university, his love of golf, and his support of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program.
