Melvin John Hartley
December 22, 1940— March 6, 2026
Westford, MA
Melvin John Hartley, 85, of Westford, Massachusetts, passed away on March 6 after facing numerous health challenges with strength and determination. Born on December 22, 1940, in Webster, Massachusetts, Mel lived a full life defined by hard work, family, friendship, and an enduring love of sports.
A longtime resident of Simsbury, Connecticut, before moving to Westford, Mel was the beloved husband of more than 50 years to Marie (Pasciscia) Hartley. Together they shared many happy years surrounded by family, extended family, and dear friends. He was the proud father of Jennifer Hartley (Larison) Johnson of Concord, Massachusetts, and devoted grandfather to Jackson and Sofie Johnson. He was also the father of Heather (Nick) Cintron of York, Pennsylvania, and grandfather to Megan and Nicholas. He leaves behind beloved family members Josephine, Ted, Cheryl, Rob, Stephen, Valerie, Heather, Jay, Bruce, Duane, grandnieces, and a grandnephew.
Mel served his country in the United States Navy and attended American International College before embarking on a long and successful career in sales. A gifted salesman, he worked for Converse, Pfaltzgraff, Salton, and Boston Warehouse, earning Salesperson of the Year honors many times. He took special pride in mentoring young salesmen, offering them guidance, encouragement, and his infectious enthusiasm.
In his free time, Mel was most at home on the golf course, particularly at Simsbury Farms, on Cape Cod, and at the family home on Amelia Island, Florida. He also enjoyed tennis, deep sea fishing, and memorable trips to the Saratoga Racetrack with longtime friends. After moving to Westford to be closer to his grandchildren, he became an active member of the Hildreth Hills Condominium Association board and was affectionately known by neighbors as “the mayor of Hildreth Hills.”
A passionate sports fan, Mel followed all New England teams with unwavering loyalty, especially his beloved Red Sox and both the men’s and women’s UConn basketball programs. His warmth, humor, and love of life remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
