Melody Kahanek ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Rivertown Funeral Chapel (Ramsay FH Group) on Mar. 4, 2026.Melody "Mel" Joy Kahanek passed away peacefully March 2, 2026, at her home in Mio, Michigan after a courageous fight against cancer.Born November 24, 1965, to Arthur Leroy Lantz and Elva Mae (Day) Lantz Mel was a go-getter. Whether it was causing havoc with her cousins or having adventures with her brothers and sisters, she was always ready to go and grab life by the horns.Mel was a hardworking individual, but that did not mean that she did not love to have a good time, laugh, and be with family and friends. Mel was someone who was able to make a person feel comfortable and welcome in her home. Never one to be selfish or greedy, she was always ready to give a helping hand when needed, no questions asked. She married Gary Kahanek in March of 1989 and went on to have three beautiful children, Dawn, Frank, and Cody who all inherited her sense of humor and hardworking attitude. The proud owner of "Y" Dairy, Mel wanted to make sure her kids grew up knowing what it was like to live a life of responsibility, but also the freedom that came with growing up on a farm. While she did work hard her whole life, she also found time for a few hobbies that she truly loved. She was an amazing woodworker, creating anything from Christmas decorations to truck beds. She also loved to garden and go antiquing when given the chance. She always loved finding little treasures here and there and sharing them with others.Melody also loved getting the family together for dinners and playing boardgames after, just enjoying those moments in time where everyone could have fun. If Mel was around, you knew that good times were ahead. She is survived by her siblings, Melinda, Melvin, Melissa, and Matthew and preceded in death by her husband Gary Kahanek and her parents, Arthur and Elva Lantz.Mel will always be remembered as a great friend, a caring sister, and a wonderful and loving mother. Her memory will live on in the stories that are shared of all the wonderful, crazy, funny, wild things she did and accomplished and truly the world was blessed to have her in it.Per Melody's request cremation has taken place with no services planned at this time.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
