Melinda A. (Mindy) Skelton passed away on March 6, 2026, while receiving hospice care at her home in Newburg, Pennsylvania. She was 77. Born in Tokyo, Japan, to John P. Matthews, a retired U.S. Army officer, and Wilma E. Matthews, she graduated from Lexington High School in Virginia in 1965 and from Roanoke College in 1971.
Mindy was a gifted artist who worked in small-scale media, creating sculpted and sewn figurines, dollhouse miniatures, and intricate beadwork. She was also a writer who produced technical manuals and articles for home computer users during the 1980s, known for her unusually humorous style that made complex subjects approachable and engaging. In 1984, she co-founded the Mid-Atlantic Regional Commodore Association.
Mindy is survived by her husband of 56 years, James A. (Andy) Skelton, along with many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends who cherished her talent, wit, and kindness.
