Meletios Argyriou

Meletios Argyriou

May 19, 1938 March 12, 2026

Astoria, NY

Meletios Argyriou passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on March 12, 2026. Born in Mandra, Greece, he immigrated to the United States in search of opportunity and a better life. Through determination, sacrifice, and hard work, he built a life defined by humility, kindness, and generosity.

For many decades, Meletios worked as a cobbler in Midtown Manhattan, owning his own shoe repair business. With skilled hands and quiet dedication, he served his customers faithfully, continuing well into his 80s before retiring. Although he did not have the opportunity to pursue higher education himself, he deeply believed in its value and worked tirelessly to ensure that his wife and daughters could achieve the opportunities he never had, taking immense pride in their accomplishments.

Above all, Meletios was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. His family was his greatest joy and proudest achievement. He will be remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, loyalty to friends, and dry sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Olympia Argyriou; his daughters, Dr. Antigone Argyriou and her spouse, John Pylarinos, and Kathy Argyriou and her spouse, John Kourtelis; and his five cherished grandchildren, Cynthia and Olympia Pylarinos, and George, Meletios, and Maria Kourtelis. His life remains a quiet example of dignity, sacrifice, and love, a legacy that will live on in the family he cherished so deeply.
