VAN BUREN--- Medore “Matt” Lavoie, of Van Buren, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2026.
Matt was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a talent for woodworking and home improvements and enjoyed buying and selling treasures from yard sales. He especially looked forward to spring, when he could be found tinkering in the yard or garage. Matt was known for his teasing nature and joking around with those he loved most.
Matt served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a skilled machinist at the Philadelphia Naval Yard until retirement. He then moved from Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, back to his beloved hometown of Van Buren, Maine.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Robert, Darlene (Chris), Tracy (Rod), Michael, Thomas, Jessica, David; and great-granddaughter, Sylvie. He is also survived by his sisters, Georgine and Simone, as well as many nieces, nephews and family whose visits he truly enjoyed.
Matt was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna (Beatty) Lavoie, who passed away two months before him. He deeply missed her and cherished the many happy years they shared together. He was also predeceased by his parents, Stanislas and Alice Lavoie; his brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Reno; and his sisters, Roland, Marlene, Claudette, and Linda.
Interment with military honors will be held at a later date. A joint Celebration of Life for Donna and Matt will be held at a date to be determined by the family. To share memories and condolences online, please visit Matt’s tribute page at www.LajoieFuneralHome.com
