Mazie Hecker ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Garr Funeral Services on Mar. 16, 2026.Mazie Evelyn Whitehouse Hecker, 97, peacefully passed away on March 14, 2026 at Maple Manor Christian Home, Sellersburg, Indiana. Mazie was born on December 14, 1928 in Charlestown, Indiana but moved to Sellersburg during elementary school and lived there for the remainder of her life.Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar and Gertrude Billiter Whitehouse and siblings Carl Whitehouse, Ruth Mannix, Esther "Janie" Lamaster, and her husband of 52 years, Floyd Herschell Hecker. She is survived by her children, Cindy Savage (David) of Montgomery, Alabama, Ken Hecker (Ellen) of Henryville, Indiana, and Ron Hecker of Sellersburg, Indiana. She also has 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Mazie was a lifelong member of Sellersburg Church of Christ. Her service to the church included teaching children's classes, adult ladies classes and Bible study groups, helping to prepare food for funeral meals at the church and sending cards of encouragement. Keeping the home for Floyd and her children was her life's work. She enjoyed cooking, raising a garden, preserving her crops and sewing.Visitation for Maize will be held at Garr Funeral Home (7806 HWY 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) on Wednesday, March 18 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and again on Thursday March 19 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.Funeral service will be Thursday, March 19 at 11:00 at the funeral home, with Brother Earl Mullins officiating.
