September 18, 1955— March 8, 2026
Newnan, GA
Maxine Sandy Seidel, 70, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, after a brief illness at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Born on September 18, 1955, in New York, New York, to Gabriel and Rita Waldman Seidel, she grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. A talented violinist from a young age, Maxine graduated from Seward Park High School at 16. She began her working life at a local law firm before moving into commodities trading on Wall Street. In her early twenties, she embarked on a cross-country adventure, driving to California with her cat Precious.
Maxine earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge. She built a successful career as Vice President of Sales at West Coast Wholesale while raising her two daughters. Known as an incredible cook who loved bringing people together, she also enjoyed dancing—especially to disco—antiquing, working on jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and caring deeply for animals. After retiring, she moved with her husband, Tom, to Newnan, Georgia, where she formed many close friendships and became an active member of her community through the bunco group, book club, and garden club. She proudly served as Lady Liberty in the annual Fourth of July parade. Her Jewish faith remained a guiding force in her life; she had long been involved with Congregation B’nai Emet in Simi Valley, California, where she served on the board, participated in the Sisterhood, and was remembered as a generous and dedicated volunteer.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Thomas Sumner of Newnan; her daughters, Randi Seidel of Washington, DC, and Robyn Clark and her husband, Collin, of San Diego, California; and her granddaughters, Mia and Abby Clark of San Diego.
