Maxine Grace (Wall) Barnes

Maxine Grace (Wall) Barnes

Allegan, MI

Maxine Grace (Wall) Barnes passed gracefully into the arms of Jesus on March 9, 2026, at Allegan General Hospital in Allegan, Michigan. Born on September 26, 1935, at home in Cheshire Township to Earl and Madaline (Beals) Wall, Maxine grew up with a strong sense of community and faith. After high school and some college, she married Robert Barnes, and the couple shared 52 loving years together until his passing in 2007.

Maxine worked as an accounts payable and payroll manager at Perrigo in Allegan from 1974 until her retirement in 1999. Deeply involved in her community, she was a longtime member of Pearl Methodist Church and Allegan United Methodist Church, as well as the VFW Post 6134 in Pullman, the Red Hat Society, and the Lady Shriners. She quietly championed the importance of women working hard, speaking up, and serving faithfully in their communities. In her free time, Maxine found joy in tending her garden, watching flowers and vegetables thrive, riding motorcycles, fishing for steelhead on Lake Michigan, taking boat trips in the Florida Keys, and cherishing time with her grandchildren. Full of life and wisdom, she generously shared her skills with those closest to her while always reflecting on her relationship with Jesus.

She is survived by her children, Candy (Phil Allen) Decker, Cindy (Rob) Harrington, Cathy (Bill) Bender, Jeff (Robin) Barnes, and Kim (Mike) Montoy; her siblings, Kenneth Wall, Deanna Repotski, and Wayne Wall; grandchildren, Jesse Barnes, Morgann (Drew) Warner, Jacob Montoy, and Jeremy Montoy; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Grace Warner, Hudson Daniel Warner, and Harper Rae Warner. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Melvin Wall, Lyle Wall, Robert Wall, Jane Wall, and Raymond Wall.
