November 1, 1931— March 11, 2026
Oscoda, MI
Maurice “Maury” Robert Rhoads, age 94, of Oscoda, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Atlanta, Michigan on March 11, 2026. Born in Comins on November 1, 1931 to Sheridan and Verna (Gusler) Rhoads, he served his country in the United States Army before earning a bachelor’s degree from Michigan Agricultural College, now Michigan State University. He enjoyed a long career with Consumers Energy, retiring after more than 25 years with the company.
Maury was a longtime member of the Oscoda Lions Club. He found deep joy in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He looked forward each year to camping trips at Harrisville State Park, where he fished for salmon and gathered with family and friends around the campfire. He cherished the quiet pleasure of watching birds and often reminisced about his early days in Comins. Maury loved his home so much that he often said it felt as though he were on vacation every day and had never worked a day in his life.
He is survived by his children, Mike (Toni) Rhoads, Dave (Andrea) Rhoads, Jill (Doug) Fox, Ken (Tamra) Rhoads, Kim (Randy) Telfor, and Kelly Rhoads; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Dean Rhoads, Ross (Joan) Rhoads, Ruby Jenner, and Sheridan Rhoads; and his sister-in-law, Sue Mitchel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jan Mitchel Rhoads; his brother, Milt Rhoads; his sister, Phyllis Harris; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Rhoads and Judy Rhoads; and his brother-in-law, Bob Jenner.
