Maurice Novosad ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Greenlawn Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries on Mar. 9, 2026.Maurice was born on November 24, 1928 in the Elwood community of Madison County, Texas to her parents Lawrence Leonard Spivey and Fanny Laura Winn Spivey. Maurice was one of eight children: Eunice Park, Ruby Spikes, Cecil Spivey, Harvey Spivey, Dan Spivey and Glynnis Spivey. She is survived by a number of Spivey nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; all loved and remembered."Just hum a few bars, and I'll pick it up"…..that was Grammy's signature line. Pitch your idea, and she ran with it. Whether it be the girl from Madisonville boldly interviewing for a coveted staff position for Glenn MacCarthy at the fabled Shamrock Hotel, the wide eyed hopeful at an audition for a part in the chorus for a production at The Music Hall, creating a musical trio known as "The Melodears," working as a medical records specialist at Polly Ryan Hospital, pursuing music as a teacher and voice coach, endeavoring as a public relations principal at Sperry Sun, or serving as a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Maurice made it happen, leaving her mark with every pursuit.Music was her passion. When she was not working, she could be found at her piano, teaching, producing, directing, and playing music. She had a gift for discovering and developing young talent with many of her students embarking on successful careers in music and entertaining; performing and teaching. After Vic passed away, she found joy writing, producing, and directing a musical play featuring her fellow retired residents at the Greatwood Community. Special remembrances go to the Greatwood Singers with whom she enjoyed sharing her love of music. Subsequently moving to The Village Retirement Community, she was often found at the piano leading sing-a-longs with her neighbors and guests. She applied the same fervor with her family. In 1953, Maurice married Victor Novosad of Rosenberg, Texas , cherishing one another for 61 years until his death in 2014. Ultimately, they moved to Sugar Land to raise their family. To them four children were born who survive her: VIcki Rizzo, Shelley Richey (LE), Cody Novosad, and Chris Novosad (Diana). Six grandchildren survive Maurice, lovingly known as "Grammy:" Mauri Oliver, Chelsea Purifoy (Jason), Carter Townsend, Jacob Novosad, Eliza Novosad, and Sydney Novosad as well as great grandchildren: Jack Purifoy and Colin Purifoy. That she loved them unconditionally was an understatement, and the "grands" adored their Grammy.Maurice Novosad, Grammy, was one of a kind..In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse in memory of Maurice Novosad. The family will gather for a private service.Expressions of remembrance and condolences are welcome and may be left for the family at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com.Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F.
