Maurice Lee Brown, Sr.

Maurice L. Brown, Sr., 89, of Phenix, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on March 8, with his wife Helen by his side.

Born on December 8, 1936, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Marion Lee Brown and Alice Blanche (McChristy) Brown, Maurice served his country with distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. For more than twenty years he worked in electronics and aircraft maintenance aboard naval vessels and at Naval Air Stations, retiring from the Fleet Reserve in 1978.

In 1969 he married Helen, and together they shared a spirit of adventure that remained with them throughout their lives. In 2005, well into their later years, they traveled across the country by RV. Maurice was known for his deep faith, unwavering honesty, and steadfast devotion to his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Leroy Brown, his sister Janelle Marie Brown, and his granddaughter Tiffany Bapties, daughter of Dwaine and Susan Bapties. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen Brown; his children Maurice Brown, Jr. and Shelia, Raymond and Teresa Brown, John and Susan Bapties, Dwaine and Susan Bapties, Denise Ross, and Tina and Ken Swanson; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many extended family members and friends. Maurice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
