Maurice "Marty" Berning

Maurice “Marty” Berning passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 97, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Helen Berning (née Riley). Marty was a beloved stepfather to JoElen (David) Godfrey, Tricia (Alan) Neff, Glenn Curcio, and Leslie (Tony) Corey; a cherished grandfather to Tony, Alanna, Jennifer, Ryan, Jameson, and the late Joshua; and a beloved great-grandfather to Rhys Goodman. He was the dear brother of the late Jane Martin, Joseph Berning, and Rita Rhein, and the son of the late Leo and Mary (Murray) Berning.

Marty served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He found great joy in fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Known for his selfless spirit, he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and volunteered for more than thirty years at St. Joseph Hospital.

He leaves behind many loving relatives and friends, including his favorite nieces and nephews JoAnn Parrish, Michael Berning, Mary Patricia Berning, Thomas Berning, Amy Berning, Kathy Hume, James Rhein, Margaret Rhein, Thomas Rhein, Donna Rhein, Julie Doepke, Judy Martin, and the late Sally Devor, Barbara Martin, Mary Rhein, and Dianne Rhein, as well as numerous other family members who will remember him with deep affection.
