Maureen Theresa (Cleary) Curtis

November 24, 1945 March 4, 2026

Solomons Island, MD

Maureen Theresa (Cleary) Curtis passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 80 in Prince Frederick, Maryland.

Born on November 24, 1945, in Washington, DC, to George Joseph Cleary Jr. and Anne Zidek, Maureen grew up on a family farm in Mitchellville, Maryland. It was there, on the land that later became Cleary Lane, that she and her husband Patrick raised their family. In 1993 they moved to Calvert County, eventually settling in Solomons Island, where the scenic surroundings inspired many of her paintings.

After high school, Maureen worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines. She devoted many years to raising her children before returning to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Maryland, College Park. She retired from United Airlines in 1997.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Curtis; her daughter Maura (McCool) and husband Steve; her son Patrick Curtis Jr. and wife Debra (Goldman); and her six cherished grandchildren, Kathryn McCool, John McCool, Grace McCool, Nathan Curtis, Nicholas Curtis, and Ella Curtis. She is also survived by her brothers Jim Cleary and Bob Cleary. She was predeceased by her siblings Loretta (Groves), Frank Cleary, Richard Cleary, Joseph Cleary, and Patricia (Conway).

She will be remembered for her big heart, kindness, wonderful sense of humor, dedication to her church, creativity as an artist, and her deep love as a mother, grandmother, and wife.
