Maureen Elaine (Arruda) Murphy, 82, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away on March 12, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Murphy. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Maureen was the daughter of the late Francis Arruda and Idelina (Rodrigues) Arruda.
She spent her career as a secretary and medical biller for PrimaCare and New Bedford Medical Associates until her retirement. Above all, Maureen’s family remained her greatest priority and deepest source of joy. She was affectionately known as a “hummingbird whisperer” for her gentle habit of feeding the birds, and she found quiet contentment in needlepoint, crocheting, and reading. An active and warm presence in her community, she was a longtime member of the Sakonnet Chicks and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Tiverton VFW, and a proud supporter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.
Maureen is survived by her six children, David Gomez, Stephen Gomez, Robert Gomez and his wife Peggy, Timothy Murphy, Kevin Murphy, and Kathleen Murphy and her wife Jennifer Perry; her stepdaughter, Robin Murphy; her grandchildren, Tara Gomez, David Gomez, Bobby Gomez, Tabitha Lequin, Dakota Gomez, and Heather Metts; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved dog, Rosie. She was preceded in death by her stepsons, Robert, Mark, and Brian Murphy.
