Maureen Elizabeth Stevenson passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at The Pioneer Home in Palmer, Alaska. She was 88 years old.
Born on May 18, 1937, in Santa Rita, New Mexico, to Talbot and Kathryn Barger, Maureen grew up in Reserve, New Mexico, and Fort Collins, Colorado, before moving her family to Palmer, Alaska, in 1971. She is survived by four of her five children: Kelly, Noel, Ruth, and Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her three partners, and her first-born son, Stewart.
Maureen will be remembered for her strong will, her independence, and the beautiful gardens she tended with such care. Those who loved her will carry forward the simple pleasures she cherished—time spent outdoors, caring for animals in need, and nurturing a garden.
