Mattie Ann Johnson Price

Mattie Ann Johnson Price, 86, of Claxton, Georgia, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

Born on September 5, 1939, in Glascock County, Georgia, Ann was the fifth of eight children of Ed and Lizzie Johnson. She grew up on the family farm and, after graduating high school, began her career at the hospital in Sandersville, working in the laboratory and radiology departments. There she met and married Eston Price, Jr. Together they shared 65 years of marriage. Ann later built and managed the Tennille Retirement Home in Tennille, Georgia. A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Claxton, she sang in the choir and faithfully taught the AMOS Sunday School class for many years. She was also active in the Evans-Tattnall Baptist Association and participated in several mission trips.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Eston E. Price, Jr.; her parents, Ed and Lizzie Johnson; brothers Gene, Glynn, and Everette Johnson; sisters Margart Wilcher, Eunice Wilcher, and Ollie Cooper; and niece Shirley Tollison.

She is survived by her daughter, Holly and Earl Hutto of Oconee, Georgia; son, Trey and Jenny Price of Claxton, Georgia; grandchildren Evan and Kirsten Hutto of Statesboro, Melissa Morgan of Claxton, Anslee and Auston Peel of Millen, and Walter and Mallori Price of Pembroke; great-grandchildren Kearstin, Landon, Peyton, Eli, Savannah, and Cannon; sister Geneva Kitchens of Gibson, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
