Greenville, SC

Matthew Joseph Devine, beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The son of Edward and Joan Devine, Matt was born on February 3, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio. He spent most of his life in Greenville, South Carolina, and was 65 years old.

A devoted husband, Matt shared 25 years of marriage with his wife, Heather. A man of deep Christian faith, he believed that serving the Lord came first and cared deeply that his children would grow up with a strong personal relationship with Christ. He served faithfully on the vestry and as an usher at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, where he enjoyed greeting members each Sunday morning. Matt was known for his positivity and grace. He never met a stranger, was quick to forgive, and truly believed everyone deserved kindness no matter their station in life.

A proud and loving father, Matt took immense joy in raising his children, affectionately referring to them as DK5. Family gatherings meant everything to him. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, and he lived by the phrase “the more the merrier,” often surprising Heather by inviting extra guests. He attended the University of South Carolina and remained a proud Gamecock, though his true sports loyalties belonged to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies. An accomplished businessman, he served as President and CEO of DHM Adhesives until the company was acquired by HB Fuller in 2019, earning the affectionate nickname “The Glue Guy” for his remarkable ability to connect with people.

Basketball was one of Matt’s greatest lifelong passions. He spent decades coaching youth basketball, including many of his children’s teams, and took pride in helping young players grow both on and off the court. Golf was another cherished pursuit, and he loved organizing rounds with his sons and close friends. Generosity defined much of his life; he believed strongly in tithing and gave faithfully to causes including Captain Pete’s charity feeding children in Africa, JDRF, and cardiac amyloidosis research. He is survived by his wife Heather; their children Matthew (Elisa) Devine of Anderson, Mary (Michael) Selvaggio of Greenville, Jack Devine of Charleston, William Devine of Greenville, and Margaret Devine of Greenville; two grandsons, Jackson and Beckham; and his siblings Edward of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, Sean of Simpsonville, and Patrice of Wellford. Matt will be remembered for his faith, his generosity, and the joy he brought to every room he entered.
