Matthew Adam Ashley

Matthew Adam Ashley

September 29, 1991 March 13, 2026

Greenwood, SC

Matthew Adam Ashley, known affectionately to those who loved him as “Big Mo,” of Greenwood, passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 34. Born on September 29, 1991, in Anderson, South Carolina, he was the son of Mark Anthony Ashley, Sr. and Mona Burdette Ashley.

A graduate of Belton Honea Path High School, Matthew excelled as an offensive lineman on the football team, where his coaches praised him as the glue that held the line together. He carried that same dedication to Coastal Carolina University, earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science while serving as a three-year starter on the offensive line. Though he also enjoyed baseball and basketball, football remained his greatest passion.

Matthew worked as a night shift supervisor at Cardinal Health, where his reliability, work ethic, and big-hearted nature left a lasting impression on his colleagues. In his free time, he found peace fishing by the water, relaxing on the family land while shooting guns, and unwinding through gaming.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Mona Ashley; his brother, Anthony Ashley and wife Melody; his niece, Aria; many aunts, uncles, and close friends including Will and Josh.

Matthew’s life was marked by the love he gave freely, the communities he strengthened through his presence, and the simple joys that brought him contentment. Those who knew him will remember the gentle giant whose kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength touched everyone around him.
