Matthew Santoro, born May 15, 1941, passed away peacefully at his home on March 5, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the people he loved.
Matthew proudly served the people of New York City as a Detective with the NYPD for 40 years. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he was known for his dedication, loyalty, sharp mind, and unwavering commitment to justice and service.
Above all, Matthew was a devoted and loving husband to his beloved wife, Renee. He was a proud and caring father to his children Dori-Ann, Lisa, Lenny, Matthew, John, Patricia, Crystal, and Farrah, and a cherished grandfather and Pop Pop to his eleven grandchildren: Eugene, Alessandra, Daniella, Gina, Kristina, Gianna, Michael, Joseph, Robert, Hayden, and Santino. Family was the center of his life. He treasured simple moments spent with those he loved—going out to breakfast with his closest friends, talking on the phone, attending church, or simply enjoying the company of his family. His faith was deeply important to him, and he remained a devoted follower and worshiper of God.
Matthew will be remembered for his humor, love, patience, kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. Dedicated and strong-willed, he possessed a sense of humor and a stubborn streak that only added to his character. Above all, he was a man who loved deeply and gave wholeheartedly to the people in his life. He leaves behind his loving wife, Renee, his children, grandchildren, and many friends whose lives were better for knowing him. His legacy of faith, love, service, and family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
