Matsuko Ireland

Matsuko T. Ireland, 95, of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Born on October 25, 1930, in Fukuoka, Japan, she was the daughter of Megumu and Wasa Takeda. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Harold P. Ireland.

Matsuko had a zest for life that showed in her love of traveling, particularly cruises, enjoying good food, singing karaoke, and celebrating her birthdays. Each October, her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson created cherished memories by taking her on special excursions to places such as Chicago, Disney World, and Graceland.

In her later years, she received devoted care from her daughter, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Kirkwood, and son-in-law, Neil Kirkwood, whose kindness and assistance brought her great comfort. She was especially proud of her grandson, Dylan Kirkwood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and looked forward to their visits together, often sharing lunches at Inakaya. She is also survived by her son, Daniel Ireland.
