Mary Valli Thorp, 74, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. Born on November 11, 1951, in Kerrville, Texas, she was the daughter of Lola Mary Tinney and William Robert Middleton Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.
In 1972, Mary married her soulmate, Melvin Eugene Thorp Sr. Together they built a life centered on family, adventure, and laughter. She is survived by her three sons: Melvin Eugene Thorp Jr. and his wife Hope, Clay Altus Thorp and his wife Ashley, and William Nathaniel Thorp and his partner Cathleen. Mary found her greatest joy in her role as matriarch, filling her home with warmth, wisdom, and humor while nurturing a close and lively family.
A woman of varied talents, Mary worked in healthcare, transportation, and education, always focused on caring for others. In 2015 she fulfilled a longtime dream by earning her college degree, demonstrating to everyone around her that it is never too late to pursue what matters. She is also survived by her brothers, William Middleton III and his wife Dorothy, Hubert Middleton Sr. and his wife Mary Jean, and her sister Sharon Middleton.
Mary’s legacy continues through her grandchildren Garrett Wade, Mckennon Lee, and Kateri Marie, and her great-grandchildren Sadie Lea Pullen and River Ray, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who cherished her time and stories. Known for her intelligence, compassion, and infectious sense of humor, she taught those who loved her to find joy in everyday moments and to embrace life fully.
