September 30, 1938— March 11, 2026
Wayne, PA
Mary Marcia O’Connor (née Macom), 87, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, formerly of Merion Station, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, holding hands with the love of her life, her devoted husband of 68 years, James J. O’Connor.
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Marcia began her working life as a model, a pursuit that reflected the grace and beauty she carried with her always. One summer in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, where both families vacationed, she met Jim. Their first meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership and love story.
Together they built a home in Merion Station, where they raised their five children. Marcia volunteered in the library at St. Margaret School, which her children attended, and was active in the Bala Cynwyd Women’s Club. Later in life, she and Jim became co-owners of The Ale House in Newtown Square, which they proudly operated for more than 30 years. All five of their children worked there at one time or another, and the restaurant became a beloved local gathering place that reflected Marcia’s warm and welcoming spirit.
Above all, her greatest joy was her family. While helping run the restaurant, she devoted countless cherished hours to babysitting her grandchildren, all of whom adored their “Grammy.”
Marcia was predeceased by her parents, Dr. John Morgan Macom and Claire Schenck Macom Devine; her brother, Dr. John Morgan Macom Jr.; her sister, Diane Mullen; her infant grandson, Stephen James Frisina; and her daughter-in-law, Tara O’Connor. She is survived by her beloved husband, James O’Connor; their children, James J. O’Connor Jr. (Patty) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Erin O’Connor McElwee of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Leslie Frisina (Mark) of Siesta Key, Florida, Thomas Morgan O’Connor (Brettania) of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Cindy Kulp (Joe) of West Chester, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
