Marion, OH
Mary Lou Mejeur, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend.
Born in Champion, Ohio to Arnel and Dorothy Robinson, Mary Lou grew up in a home filled with love, learning, and strong family values. Her childhood home was shared with her siblings Nancy Rhodes, Dan (Yimi) Robinson, and Mark (Nan) Robinson. These values would stay with her throughout her life.
‘Lou,’ as she was often called by her siblings, graduated from Van Buren High School in 1971 and Bowling Green State University in 1975. She made and maintained lifelong friendships at both schools. She graduated college with a degree in Elementary Education. She had a gift for nurturing young minds and started her career teaching 1st grade at Kenwood in Bowling Green before moving to Marion to teach both kindergarten and 2nd grade. She taught for many decades at Ridgedale before retiring in 2009. Mary Lou’s kindness, patience and endless support left a mark on countless students over the years referring to her as their favorite teacher. After leaving full-time classroom teaching she returned to Ridgedale as a substitute, tutor and library aide.
Mary Lou married the love of her life, Jerry Mejeur, in July of 1977. She was the proud mother of Erin Mejeur-Shuster, Kelly (Brad) Dutton, and Tracy (Gary) Ding. Her family was her greatest joy and she cherished her grandchildren Vincent Shuster, Taylor Shuster, Connor Dutton, Marilynn Mejeur, Deacon Dutton, Gracelynn Dutton, Landon and Oliver Ding. She was also considered an “adoptive” mother and grandmother to many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends. Mary Lou took every opportunity she could to support and cheer on her family at sporting events, concerts and other endeavors.
Mary Lou’s life was filled with love for family and friends, and her legacy will live on in them and in the many students who started their school years under her devoted care and guidance.
Visitation hours will be held March 22, 2026 at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene from 1:00-3:00 and a Celebration of Life to follow.
