Mary Kay (Cross) Mihalka, age 61, passed away surrounded by family on February 12th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on October 16th, 1964, to George and Martha (DuSell) Cross. Mary Kay grew up in Plano, Illinois. Born into a large family, Mary Kay was quick to learn compassion and community. A hard worker, she held a variety of jobs over the years, taking pride in all she did.
Mary Kay was the definition of a social butterfly, earning her lifelong friendships and memories she held dear until the very end. Her humor was quick and her way of communication. She had a natural gift for connecting with others. Even through her illness, she continued to make others smile. Mary Kay leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished moments for all around.
She is survived by her daughter, Alyssa Mihalka of Wisconsin, and five siblings: Linda (Mark) Johnson of Sandwich, Illinois, Theresa Vinyard of Sandwich, Illinois, Michael Cross of Geneva, Illinois, Barbara Bedford of Millington, Illinois, and Stephen (Andrea) Cross of Fuquay - Vnephewsarina, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephew.
Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents, George and Martha Cross and son Nicholas Mihalka. Join us in a celebration of life, commemorating all she was - details pending.
