Mary Joan Smith, formerly of Clinton and longtime resident of Terre Haute, passed away at the age of 72 on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on March 31, 1953, in Terre Haute to Theodore and Frances McDonald Stuczynski, she graduated from Clinton High School with the class of 1971 and worked as a secretary for Sponsler Insurance Agency in Terre Haute.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell Smith in December 2000, and three sisters: Frances Russell on January 23, 1997, Dorothy Burrall on January 23, 1999, and Theresa Stuczynski on September 7, 2017.
Mary Joan is survived by her son, Barry R. (Debbie) Lilley of Clinton, her daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Black of Mississippi, five grandchildren, Chelseigh, Haleigh, Kasseigh, Corbin, and Dylan, and one great-granddaughter, Braelynn. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Jean Johnson of Texas, several nieces and nephews, and her longtime companion, David Donaldson of Terre Haute. A private service was held, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park.
