She was born on February 16, 1948, in Springfield, IL, to the late John Joseph Ostermeier and Kathryn Talitha Denney.Mary Jo was an avid reader and was especially fond of mystery novels. She enjoyed getting lost in a story while relaxing with a cup of coffee in hand. A true computer and organizational wizard, she embraced technology with curiosity and skill. She held a special place in her heart for animals and cared for multiple cats and dogs over the years.Originally from the New City-Pawnee area, Mary Jo attended college at Patricia Stephens Secretarial school in St. Louis. Throughout her life, she resided in several states including California, Colorado, Missouri, and Texas. Along the way she explored a variety of jobs. Each interesting job she had fulfilled her adventurous spirit and fed her passion for learning. She was never afraid to experience new things.Mary Jo loved visiting new places and traveled as often as she could. She enjoyed traveling by train and making life-long memories everywhere she went. Mary Jo eventually settled in Maryland Heights, MO, her home for many years while she worked her final job. She happily retired after a fulfilling career and returned to Taylorville where her journey came full circle. Mary Jo will be remembered by her family and friends for her brilliance and her passions.She is survived by her sons: Todd (Beth) Steffen of Farmersville, IL; Erik (Megan) Steffen of Newton, IL; grandchildren: Cole, Laura, Tristen (Cynthia), Madelynne (Jay) and Lillian; sister: Kay Funderburk (Alfred) of Taylorville, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.Per the family's wishes, private services will be held at this time.Memorials may be made to the Christian County Animal Control or Christian County Senior Citizens.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
