She was born December 25, 1940 in Ionia the daughter of Kenneth and Pearl (Chapman) Ward.Mary married Thayne Gordon Helmer July 22, 1989, he preceded her in death November 11, 2007.She worked at General Tire for many years and later went in to Real Estate, working for Greenridge Reality in Lowell as a Real Estate Agent. Mary was an avid painter and enjoyed playing Bridge. She loved her Yorky Maxwell.Mary is survived by her children, Denise (Dave) Rogers of Haines City, Florida, Wayne (Barb) Lafler of Lowell and Greg (Anna) Lafler of Ionia. Grandchildren, Araceli (Flo) Rihel, Kirstin Lafler, David Stephens, Brandi Lafler, Darcy (Troy) Campbell, Alexandria and Clinton Hewartson. Several Great Grandchildren. Sister Susan Solomon of Portland. Several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thayne, grandsons Matthew Lafler and Jeremy Rogers and sister Sonja Reed and Brenda Hewartson.Funeral Services for Mary will be at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Easton Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
