Cleveland, TN
Mary “Glenda” McCarter Scoggins, 80, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, in a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 15, 1945, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late William Glenn and Mable Collins McCarter. A longtime member of the Mt. Olive Church of God, Glenda possessed a remarkable talent for quilting and created many beautiful quilts for her family and friends over the years. She cherished her family above all else and found her greatest joy in spending time with them.
For many years Glenda managed several of the local Collins Markets before retiring and beginning a new chapter at Companion Funeral Home. For nearly eleven years she assisted families during visitations and services, a role in which her warmth and compassion deeply touched countless lives. She continued working until just days before her passing, when her health required her to step away. She was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Glenda is reunited in Heaven with her beloved son Kevin Scoggins, her daughter Tammy Scoggins Leatherwood, her stepmother Flossy Tommie McCarter, and her brother Joe Collins.
She is survived by her loving husband and soulmate of 64 years, Leon “Whick” Scoggins; granddaughter Amber Olinger and her husband Todd; grandsons Tyler Dooley and Zack Scoggins; great-grandsons Aiden Olinger (Hope) and Ian Dooley; great-granddaughter Zoe Dooley; sister Sue McCarter; daughter-in-law Leisa Winner; special adopted family member Sue Olinger; and many other extended family members, her cherished Companion family, church family, and dear friends.
