Mary Galloway Helmick

Mary Galloway Helmick, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 8, 2026. Born on February 1, 1941, in Richmond, Virginia, she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1959, where she met the love of her life, Ira Helmick, Sr. Together they built a life deeply centered on family.

A longtime member of Ridge Baptist Church, Mary worked for many years as a Retail Sales Associate at Sears. Yet her greatest joy and true passion remained her family. She raised her children with unwavering love and support, and family vacations were a cherished tradition, from camping trips to memorable journeys through Hawaii, Alaska, and many other destinations across the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lois Galloway, her brother Frank, and her sister Shirley. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Ira Helmick, Sr., her loving children, Ira Helmick, Jr. (Chris), Carrie Robinson (Robbie), and Leslie Costell (Jimmy); grandchildren Bradley Helmick (Katherine) and Matthew Robinson (Abbey); step-grandchildren Samantha, Matthew, Sarah and their families; three great-grandchildren with a fourth on the way; and her brother, Johnny Galloway.

Mary will be remembered for her loving spirit, her steadfast commitment to family, and the quiet joy she brought to everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on through all those who cherished her.
