Mary Miller ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Hall Funeral Home - Purcellville on Mar. 17, 2026.With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Frances "Mimi" Miller, on March 14, 2026, at the age of 67. Mimi was taken too soon while surrounded by her loving family, after a five year battle with cancer. On August 5th,1958 Mimi was born to Richard and Theresa Johnson, their 4th child, later to be joined by two more siblings. Mimi loved growing up as part of a large, raucous, pet filled family on five acres.Mimi grew up with a passion for horses and dogs. When she was a tween, she competed in AKC dog shows as a junior handler of rough collie dogs. In high school, Mimi played four years on the Loudoun Valley High School tennis team and loved performing on stage as part of the drama department, with a highlight being her lead role as Tracy Lord in the school's production of The Philadelphia Story.Mimi attended Old Dominion University and later earned her registered nursing diploma from the Norfolk General School of Professional Nursing. Mimi devoted 43 years to a compassionate and dedicated nursing career, serving in a variety of roles from working in intensive care units (ICU's) to post anesthesia care units (PACUs). Mimi formed lasting friendships with many of her nursing comrades. In 1991, Mary Frances married "the one", John Miller, after the two were set up on a blind date by John's sister, Eileen, who, like Mary Frances, was also a nurse. Together they built a wonderful life over 35 years, sharing a love of horses, dogs, travelling, skiing, boating, and tennis, and most recently discovering a new favorite pastime in pickleball. When Mary Frances married John, she became a stepmother to two wonderful teenage children, Jeremy and Jessica; and in 1996, they joyfully welcomed their beloved daughter Casey.Mimi will be remembered most for her outspoken manner, sense of humor, love of animals, and unwavering devotion to her family. As a registered nurse, Mimi was the family's unofficial chief medical officer. Any time something hurt, itched, or looked remotely suspicious, she was our first call. Whenever we reached out, we all secretly hoped to catch her in a good mood–so that our diagnosis was a bit more optimistic than it might otherwise be. In all seriousness, though, Mimi spent an incredible amount of time and energy taking care of us. Although her manner could be a little brusque, it always came from a place of love–just with a side of tough medicine. Her guidance to us all will be very missed.Mary Frances is survived by her loving husband, John Miller, children Casey Miller, Jessica Miller (Dustin), and Jeremy Miller (Corry), siblings Paula Rose, Rick Johnson (Mildred); Greg Johnson, Terri Ann Versprille (Jake), Scott Johnson (Jeanette), 4 grandchildren Charlie, Mason, Dawson, Meadow, a host of many cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly. Missing her as well is her beloved boxer mix, Chloe and her thoroughbred horse Kalamara. She was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law, Michael Rose. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love and vibrant energy that were the essence of Mimi's being.Services to honor her life will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 12pm at Hall Funeral Home:140 South Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, VA. Luncheon to follow at Sylvanside Farm.
