Mary Frances Lisso

1938 — 2026

New Braunfels, TX

Frances Lisso, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 11, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas.

Mary Frances Halfmann was born on April 23, 1938, in San Angelo to Lawrence August and Cecilia Fuchs Halfmann. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in Rowena, she worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses, including Bob Loyd L P Gas in Ballinger and Winters, Mueller Supply, and Higginbotham Brothers.

In 1960, Frances married the love of her life, Erwin (Bud) Lisso, in Olfen, Texas. They shared 44 years together, first on the farm before moving to Ballinger in 1963. The couple lived in Ballinger and Winters before returning to farm life in 1999, where they raised goats until Bud’s death in 2004. Frances remained on the farm, raising haired sheep with the help of her sister Judy and brother-in-law Fred until 2022, when she moved to New Braunfels to live with her daughter Betty and son-in-law Clark. She cherished her month-long visits with her daughter Susan and son-in-law Jerry in Wolfforth, where she delighted in watching and enjoying their goats.

A devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rowena, Frances was an active member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and sang in the church choir.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents, Lawrence and Cecilia Halfmann; her sister Anna Rose (Alvin) Kuss; her brother Lawrence (Carolyn) Halfmann; her in-laws Arthur and Julie Lisso; and her sister-in-law Evelyn Richardson.

She is survived by her daughters Susan (Jerry) Harney and Betty (Clark) Johnson, her sister Judy Jansa and brother-in-law Fred Jansa, her grandsons Wesley (Melanie) Johnson, Gregory (Deborah) Johnson, John (Nikki) Harney, and Matt Harney, her great-granddaughters Kynleigh, Mica, Addyson, and Logan, and her soon-to-be great-grandson, along with several nieces, nephews, and their families.
