Gilbert, AZ
Mary Frances Bachmann, 88, of Gilbert, Arizona, formerly of Lyndhurst and Willoughby, Ohio, passed away on March 8, 2026, at Cogir of Morrison Ranch Senior Living in Gilbert. Born on December 23, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Hugh and Isabel (Frease) King.
Mary Fran graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in Elementary Education. On August 1, 1964, she married Winston Bachmann in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. She taught in the Euclid school system from 1959 to 1965 and in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst school system from 1975 to 1982 while raising their three sons. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Cleveland and later the First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, she and Win lived in Lyndhurst for many years before moving to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby in 2007. In 2022, she moved to Gilbert, Arizona, to be closer to family. They were married for 56 years until Win’s passing.
Mary Fran found great joy in hiking, singing in choirs, playing piano and guitar, attending plays and concerts, and sharing family vacations. In recent decades, she and Win participated in 14 Elderhostel programs, more than half of them in Arizona. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose warmth and love for learning and the arts touched everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Katharine) Bachmann of Mt. Shasta, California; Glen (Pamela) Bachmann of Gilbert, Arizona; and Scott (Hiroko) Bachmann of Yokosuka, Japan; and her grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Abigail, and Douglas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. She will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, West Virginia.
