Mary was born on November 16, 1930, the daughter of the late Lonzo Barbee and Susie Barbee (Griffin). Mary married the late Elmer Thomas on June 1, 1950, sharing 66 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2016.Mary was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.Surviving are her children: Bev Raikes of Petersburg, Bruce Thomas of Petersburg, and Scott (Roberta) Thomas of Oakford and daughter-in-law Vicki Thomas, of Williamsville, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Artie Mae Hill, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a beloved dog, Star. She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Thomas, son-in-law, Thomas W. Raikes, granddaughters, Dawn and Nikki Raikes, brothers, Howard, Ted, Mitchell, Wesley, Otis, Jude, Wick, Leonard, Beaver, and Edward Barbee.A graveside service will be held for Mary on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 11:00am at Oakford Cemetery. Memorial donations in Mary's memory may be made to The Petersburg Garden Club. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
