Mary E. Nehring

Mary E. Nehring, 86, of Iowa Falls, passed away on March 12, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Born on September 29, 1939, in Wilkie, Iowa, to Albert and Marie (Ulrich) Fenton, Mary Ellen grew up with a quiet strength and a generous heart. She married Robert (Mike) Nehring on September 5, 1957, in Eldora, Iowa. After his death, she supported her family through various roles, working as a waitress at the 77 Lounge and Red Rooster, as a dietary aide at Scenic Living Communities, and later as a cook at the Dows Care Center.

Mary’s true gift was in the kitchen. A wonderful cook and baker, she expressed her love through the meals and treats she prepared, especially her lemon pie and buttermilk brownies. She found joy in fishing, camping, and shopping, yet nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Rose (Mike) Kappel of Iowa Falls, Charles Nehring of Eldora, and Niki Nehring (Tim Merfeld) of Iowa Falls, along with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her infant daughters Jeanie and Joanie, and two brothers.
