Mary E. Mezzatesta, known affectionately as Mary to her family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Barton, New York, on March 6, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on July 6, 1962, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, she was the youngest and only daughter of the late Melvin and Elizabeth (Mague) Ritchie. She was predeceased by her brothers Mel, Harry, Timmy, Jack, and Fred.
Mary met the love of her life, Robert Mezzatesta, while he was stationed at Fort Dix. They married on November 16, 1984, and together built a life centered on family and devotion. She was the beloved mother of Chris (Erin) Mezzatesta, Travis (Alison) Mezzatesta, and Maxwell (Kalea) Mezzatesta. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren: Dominic, Madilyn, Abby, Christopher Jr., Alexandria, Lillian, Madilyn, Evan, Karaline, Katherine, Faith, Talia, Axten, Chase, and Colson. She was also a cherished aunt to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A proud graduate of Toms River High School, class of 1980, Mary worked as a talented cook at both Fort Dix and Cornell University. Her culinary skills were an expression of her warmth and creativity, and her home was a gathering place filled with laughter, conversation, and the comforting aromas of her cooking. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved, especially during family celebrations.
Mary fought a courageous battle with cancer, facing it with strength and resilience. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and the enduring love she shared so generously with her family and all whose lives she touched.
