Mary E. Cumberland

Mary E. Cumberland, 77, passed away on March 10, 2026.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio on August 2, 1948 to the late Carl and Anna Kathryn (Alten) McClellan, Mary grew up on the family farm. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through seventh grade, Thomas Ewing Junior High School, and graduated from Lancaster High School. From an early age she developed a deep love for animals, raising horses, birds, cows, and pigs while actively participating in FFA and 4-H. Later in life she bred and showed Yorkshire Terriers, earning the distinction of exhibiting them at the Westminster Dog Kennel Club Show in New York.

Mary is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jeffrey C. Cumberland; her daughter, Sonya Rhymer; her son, Shawn Nixon; grandchildren Taylor (Curtis) Phillips and Dylon Rhymer; great-grandchildren Raymond, Carter, Stephen, and Isaac Phillips; her sister-in-law, Lee Ann McClellan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Don, John, and Bill McClellan.
