Mary Catherine Valleroy

Mary Catherine Valleroy passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Robert F. Schanz and Helen Agnes (Lane) Schanz, her sister Helen Schanz Kluver, and her cousin Anne LaPalm Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann Valleroy, her grandson Andrew Robert Schlageter, her goddaughter Eileen Martin Kennedy, and her dear friends William Shafer and Joseph Russo.

Mary spent twelve happy years at Rochester’s historic Academy of the Sacred Heart. A proud graduate of the Nazareth College Nursing Program, she devoted twenty years to serving as a drug and mental health counselor at Unity Hospital and remained active in several nursing organizations throughout her career.

She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her dedication to helping others, and the deep and lasting friendships she formed, especially with the late Sr. Grace Miller. Those who knew her will cherish the grace and compassion she brought to her family, her work, and her community.
