Mary Catherine Callaway

Mary Catherine Callaway, known affectionately as Mom, Nana, Momeo, and Aunt Cat, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026 at the age of 97, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

Born on February 10, 1929 in Hosston, North Caddo Parish, she graduated from Hosston High School. After marrying Edward Frank “Pop” Callaway in 1947, she lived first in Gilliam before becoming a lifelong resident of Shreveport in late 1949. Mary Catherine raised three sons while managing the home, later working as a cashier and then as a school cafeteria manager for the Caddo Parish Public Schools until her retirement. A strong Christian, she taught at Linwood Baptist Church and later at North Shreve Baptist Church. She cared for her mother, Lucy Boydston, for many years, traveled extensively to visit family across the country and in Hawaii, and cherished a wide circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward Frank “Pop” Callaway, her parents Pinkney Calvin Boydston and Lucy Hill Boydston, her sister Carline Boydston Bruce, and her brother James C. “Sonny” Boydston.

Mary Catherine is survived by her three sons and their wives—Bruce Edward Callaway and Mary of Beavercreek, Ohio, William Lane Callaway and Cathy of Shreveport, and James Roger Callaway and Sue of Big Sandy, Texas—along with two grandchildren, Amanda Lane Callaway of Shreveport and Michael Dustin Callaway of Melbourne, Florida. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and North Carolina. In her later years, she became the last surviving aunt to many in her extended family. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
