June 5, 1957 March 10, 2026

Downingtown, PA

Mary Beth (Dempsey) Prouty, 68, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of David A. Prouty, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on June 5, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Murphy) Dempsey. Mary Beth grew up in Broomall, attended Marple Newtown High School—where she first met her husband Dave and formed lifelong friendships—and graduated from Our Lady of Angels College, now Neumann University. She went on to build a meaningful career as a registered nurse and nurse manager at Bryn Mawr Hospital, where her compassion and dedication touched both patients and colleagues alike.

A warm and adoring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she found joy in cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, spending time with her beloved French bulldog Lucy, and gathering with family and friends in Ocean City, New Jersey. Those who knew her will remember her as a deeply kind, generous, and compassionate soul.

She is survived by her husband Dave; her children, David A. Prouty and his wife Molly Hudson, and their children Lila and Isaac of Fort Collins, Colorado, Michael T. Prouty and his wife Jessica, and their children Payton and Nora of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and Megan E. Prouty and her wife Mae Beatty, and their daughter Amelia of West Chester, Pennsylvania; her sisters Susan Dempsey and Margy Quisenberry; her mother-in-law Mary Prouty; and her dear friends Nina, Gina, and Linda.
