Mary Beth Lies

November 18, 1948 March 14, 2026

Mishawaka, IN

Mary Beth Lies passed away on March 14, 2026, after a long struggle with debilitating conditions. Born on November 18, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Robert and Roberta Reardon, she was the second oldest of four siblings. She attended St. Lawrence grade school and Bishop Chatard high school before graduating from the Indiana University School of Banking in 1972. In 1973, she married James M. Lies, and together they shared 52 years of marriage. Mary Beth found joy in travel, motorhome camping, throwing parties, shopping, caring for pets, exploring genealogy, visiting the casino, and nurturing her many friendships.

Known for her magnetic personality and sparkling sense of humor, Mary Beth earned the nickname “Grumpy” that belied her warm and engaging nature. She began her career in credit cards at AFNB in Indianapolis and went on to sell office equipment and supplies, wholesale steel in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and home furnishings for Sandock’s. Later in life, she served as an aide at Morningside Nursing Home before spending 25 years as Recreation Services Director at Countryside Place Nursing Home, now known as Brickyard 12th Street. There she became known as “the Legend,” earning numerous industry awards and the lasting friendship, admiration, and respect of her peers.

Mary Beth is survived by her husband Jim; her sister Sheila Reardon of Raynham, Massachusetts; her brothers John of Taunton, Massachusetts, and Robert of Indianapolis; her daughters Amy (William) Smith of Georgetown, Texas, and Christine (Demitrice) Wilson of LaVerne, California; and her four grandchildren, Kira and Mason Smith, and Mia and Teyla Wilson. She will also be remembered fondly by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
