March 27, 1935— March 13, 2026
Rock Hill, SC
Mary Ann Pearlstine Aberman passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in Charleston as the daughter of Milton and Cecile Pearlstine, she graduated from Moultrie High School and attended Agnes Scott College before leaving school to marry Eddie Aberman. As an army wife, she later settled with her family in Rock Hill, a place she often noted was quite a change from her beloved Charleston.
Mary Ann possessed a keen intelligence and sharp wit, never earning less than an A in any class throughout her schooling. She was an accomplished knitter, an avid bridge player, and enjoyed the companionship of friends in the Pine Lakes Garden Club and the Politeia Club. Above all, she devoted herself to the care of her children with special needs, working tirelessly with physical therapists, special education programs, and support services. This commitment led her to become a leader in establishing the York County Board of Special Needs and a network of group homes that enabled many adults with special needs to live in supportive, nurturing environments within their community.
A refined and attentive mother and grandmother, Mary Ann passed along her sense of fashion and elegance to her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie, her sister Barbara, and her cousins Jane, Edwin, and John. She is survived by her children, Ann Aberman of Columbia and Mickey Aberman (Linda MacDonald) of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Alex Aberman (Rachel Laney), Kate Aberman, and Elias Aberman (Marley Goldman); and her dear friend of nearly 60 years, Brenda Heath.
