Mary Alice Quarles

Mary Alice Faye, daughter of John Henry Crowder and Lueanna Parchman Crowder, was born on April 13, 1947, in Clarksville, Tennessee. She passed away on March 2, 2026.

A lifelong resident of Clarksville, Mary Alice graduated from Burt High School with the Class of 1965. She worked as a Dietary Aide at Memorial Hospital and later as a Cafeteria Aide with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. She accepted Christ at an early age and remained a devoted member of St. Peter AME Church, where she faithfully served in the Irene McKinnon Women’s Missionary Society, the Culinary Team, Sunday School, and the 1st Saturday Women’s Ministry.

On March 26, 1987, she married James Quarles. Together they raised six daughters and shared a deep love for family and friends. Mary Alice found joy in sewing, cooking, shopping, and participating in church activities. Her warm smile and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Quarles, and her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Tanya White, Delinda (Timothy) Gold, Tracy Garrett, Melissa Thomas, Latina (Demont) Mimms, all of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Rebecca Coursey of Atlanta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Patricia (James) Howze of Lafayette, Louisiana, Sandra Tyson of Erin, Tennessee, and Dorothy (Carlton) Roach; sister-in-law Jenice Quarles; brother-in-law Sandy (Lillie Bell) Quarles; special friends Lisa Long, Linda Ellison, Birdie Haynes, Debi Bourne, Miller Anglin, and Tommy Darden; cousin Hubert Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
