Mary A. Schroeder

Mary A. (Christnovich) Schroeder, 81, of Hawkins, Wisconsin, passed away on March 8, 2026 at her home. Born on September 13, 1944 in Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin, to John and Bernice Christnovich, she grew up in Argonne and moved to the Milwaukee area after high school, where she lived for thirty years before settling in Hawkins in 1994.

Mary was known for her generous spirit and many talents in the kitchen. A gifted cook and baker, she delighted in sharing her creations with family and friends. Those fortunate enough to learn her lemon meringue pie recipe were encouraged to keep the tradition alive. She also tended a thriving garden and spent countless hours canning its bounty, which she freely gave away to ensure no one in her circle went hungry. Her love for Elvis Presley was evident in her cherished memorabilia collection, which once included a beloved Elvis Christmas village displayed at the Hawkins library. Above all, she adored her pets, especially her dog Dalton and cat Bubba, and she now rests reunited with all the beloved animals that preceded her.

She is survived by her daughters, Deb (Scott) Wallner of Muskego, Wisconsin, and Penny Pastuszak of Southwick, Massachusetts; grandchildren Alyssa Hackett, Matthew Pastuszak, and Alex Wallner; great-grandchildren Zoe and Conor Hackett; sisters Rita Vanderlinden of Krakow, Wisconsin, Carol Hendren of Hartland, Wisconsin, and Anita (Ron) Kevilus of Argonne, Wisconsin; brother Tom Christnovich of DePere, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law Sheri Christnovich of Oak Creek, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her grandson Jordan Wallner, great-grandson Everett Wallner, and brother John Christnovich.

The family extends deep gratitude to her devoted caregiver Emily Hartman and Emily’s son Killian, whose compassionate support allowed Mary to remain in her beloved home until the end. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.
