Marvin Sandford Carlis

Marvin Carlis, 89, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his residence in Santa Barbara, California.

Born in Los Angeles in 1936, Marvin carried a strong sense of determination and responsibility from an early age. He built a successful career in the meat processing and packing industry, where his work ethic, sharp instincts, and leadership earned the lasting respect of colleagues and partners.

At the age of 23, he married the love of his life, Ria Joyce Gerson. Together they shared more than six decades of devoted partnership and adventure, traveling the globe while raising three daughters. Marvin took great pride in providing his family with a life filled with happiness and opportunity. He is survived by his daughters Dani Carlis Ison, Jamie Carlis Green (John Green), and Cristie Carlis Odle, as well as four granddaughters and one grandson. Though a man of few words, those closest to him understood the depth of his love and how much his family meant to him.
