San Angelo, TX

Marvin Lester Jarratt passed away leaving behind a life defined by faith, hard work, and involvement in his community. He was born on May 5, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1959 and briefly attended San Angelo College (now Angelo State University). Marvin served his country for 3 years in the US Army as a Military Police officer. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Glena Catlett. They were married in Muldrow, Oklahoma on March 1, 1963.

Much of Marvin's life was spent working in agriculture. He farmed cotton and milo and raised livestock including sheep and pigs. During the Farmer's Strike of 1979, he was elected as a community representative and traveled to Washington, D.C., multiple times to advocate for parity for farmers. During this period of his life, Marvin served several years on the Wall ISD school board. Over the years he also worked as a truck driver and later at Lowe's, where many people knew him as the "tool guy".

Marvin enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting dove, deer, and varmints, and he especially liked helping his grandchildren learn to hunt. In later years, Marvin started shooting in sporting clays activities and competitions at the San Angelo Claybird Association, where he made many lifelong friends.

Marvin was always up for a game of 42, whether it was playing in a tournament or just teaching his kids and grandkids to play. Many family memories were made around a domino table.

Woodworking became another interest later in his life, and he was an active member of the Woodworkers Club of San Angelo. There he met many friends with similar interests. He became well known for the quality of his scroll saw craftsmanship, including his crosses, baskets and snowflakes. Marvin used his wood working skills to craft custom projects for several local taxidermists where his work was recognized in award winning taxidermy projects.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Glena Catlett Jarratt; his daughter, Kimberly Jarratt Dean and husband William, and son, Timothy Jarratt and Celeste Letz. His grandchildren include Kaysi Dean Bridwell and husband James, Nathan Jarratt and wife Jessica, Kinsey Dean, Kelby Dean Ewton and husband Beau, and Brianna Jarratt and Brock Diamond. He is survived by three great-grandchildren, Kolter Dean Ewton, Bennie Kay Ewton, and Tanner Gene Jarratt and his siblings, Ira Earl Jarratt and Doris Jarratt Guckian, and numerous other family members.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Earl Jarratt and Bessie Mayes Jarratt.
