Marvin Douglas Schmitt

Marvin Douglas Schmitt of Akron, Michigan, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. He was born on October 6, 1949, in Saginaw, the youngest son of Frederick Charles and Ferndale (Yax) Schmitt. One of ten children, Marvin grew up attending Reese schools and graduated from Vassar High School. He worked as a truck driver for Holzhei Farms and Self-Serve Lumber Company. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1973 as a military police officer in Vietnam. Marvin cherished time spent with his family, visits to the casino, and hosting backyard barbecues.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela McIntosh, Tammy (Demerus) Gist, and Stacy (Jay) Haymaker; granddaughters Ashley (Ryan) Godard, Jade Schmitt, and Mya Gist; great-grandchildren Alexis and Andrew Godard; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was predeceased by his parents; brothers Lloyd, Cecil, Philip, Eugene, Milton, and Charles; sisters Jackie, Janet, and infant sister Jane; and son-in-law Michael McIntosh.

Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. The family extends their deep gratitude to the staff of the Covenant CVICU for the compassionate care they provided Marvin.
