Angola, NY
Martin J. Scharrer, 73, of Angola, New York, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born on March 12, 1952, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carl Edward and Margaret Scharrer.
Marty graduated from The Rayen High School in 1971 and began his career with the railroad that same year. He retired in 2012 from CSX as a conductor after 41 years of dedicated service.
Predeceased by his parents and his son, Martin Jr., who passed away in February 2020, Marty is survived by his daughters, Tiffany of New York and Margie Bradley of Nevada; his son, Shon (Paula) Kessler of Austintown; and six beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, Edward, Michael, Mark, and Thomas Scharrer, and his sisters, Kathleen Minniti, Pamela Scharrer, and Amy Jones.
An avid outdoorsman, Marty found great joy in hunting with both gun and cap-and-ball, archery, fishing, and boating. Several of his trophies adorned the walls of his home. In retirement, he could often be found dancing and enjoying the company of friends at the American Legion Hall, the VFW, and the Jovial in Angola. His family extends special thanks to his brother Tom and to his caregivers, Jennifer Dunkle, JoAnn Mascio, and MaryEllen Naab, for their compassionate care that allowed him to remain comfortable in his home.
